Family and friends gather in prayer and remembrance as the urn is placed in its niche within the Columbarium. The engraved granite faceplate is then installed, creating a permanent place of peace, reflection, and lasting family legacy for generations to come.

Columbarium, niche, inurnment???

The Columbarium is the structure that contains multiple niches.  A niche is a personal compartment for urns.  Inurnment is the act of placing the urns in the niche in the Columbarium.  Interment is the burial of the urn in the ground.

Who may attend the inurnment service?

Family members, friends, and loved ones are all welcome to attend the inurnment service.

How long does an inurnment service usually last?

Most services last between 15 and 30 minutes, although families may choose a longer service if desired.

Who Leads the Service?

The Pastor, Priest, Rabbi, Imam, or just a chosen family member or dear friend.  The service follows the deceased's faith while the Chapel provides the setting.

May we include prayers, readings, or music?

Yes. Families are encouraged to personalize the service with prayers, scripture readings, music, or remarks that honor their loved one.

Who places the urn into the niche?

The urn may be placed by the officiant, cemetery representative, family members, or a combination of these, depending on the family's wishes.

When is the granite faceplate installed?

The engraved granite faceplate is installed after the service, allowing each person time to approach and pause at the niche.

May flowers be brought to the service?

Yes. Flowers may be used during the service.  They may also be placed on the natural stones at the base of the Columbarium at any time.

Can additional family members be inurned in the same niche?

Companion and family niches are available and may accommodate multiple urns, depending on the niche selected.

May we visit the niche after the service?

Absolutely. Families and friends are welcome to visit the Columbarium throughout the year for remembrance, reflection, and prayer.  The Columbarium is a legacy place of remembrance that can be visited 24/7, 365 days of the year.

The Columbarium is located within Walker Chapel Historic Cemetery in Northern Virginia, providing a peaceful and historic setting for remembrance and reflection.
