Caring for a Family Legacy

A niche in the Walker Chapel Columbarium is more than a resting place—it is a family legacy. It is a place where children, grandchildren, and future generations can return to remember those who came before them.

We believe such a place deserves thoughtful care. Throughout the year, the Chapel Cemetery Crew tends the Columbarium, gardens, trees, flowers, and surrounding grounds to ensure they remain beautiful, peaceful, and welcoming.

Every visit should bring the same sense of dignity and comfort that families felt on the day they entrusted their loved one to our care. Preserving that experience is both our responsibility and our privilege.

Our promise is simple: to maintain a place of remembrance worthy of the memories it holds.

How is the Columbarium maintained?

The Columbarium is regularly inspected, cleaned, and cared for by the Chapel Cemetery Crew, a dedicated group of volunteers who work year-round to preserve its appearance and integrity.

What is D/2 Biological Solution and why is it used?

D/2 is a gentle biological cleaner widely used on historic monuments and memorials. It removes biological growth without harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaning methods that could damage stone surfaces.

Are the niche faceplates inspected?

Yes. The niche faceplates, inscriptions, and surrounding structures are periodically inspected to ensure they remain secure, legible, and in excellent condition.

Who cares for the gardens around the Columbarium?

The Chapel Cemetery Crew maintains the gardens, flower beds, shrubs, and trees surrounding the Columbarium as part of its ongoing stewardship of the cemetery grounds.

What flowers and plants surround the Columbarium?

The landscape includes seasonal flowers, hydrangeas, Japanese Snowbell trees, and more than 150 flowering irises, creating a peaceful and colorful setting throughout much of the year.  As with any living landscape, plantings evolve and mature. New flowers, shrubs, and trees may be added over the years to enhance the beauty of the grounds while preserving its historic character.

Can family members help support the care of the grounds?

Many families choose to participate in volunteer workdays or support the cemetery through donations that help preserve the Columbarium and gardens for future generations.

Why is so much attention given to the gardens and grounds?

Because the Columbarium is not simply a structure that holds urns. It is a place where families come to remember, reflect, pray, and reconnect with loved ones. The beauty of the surroundings is part of honoring the memories entrusted to our care.
